This site will mostly be about fiction. I started my writing career churning out anonymous and pseudonymous hack fiction about forty years ago–nothing to brag about, two-cents-a-word stuff (see “Hack Writing 101: The Lost Meat Spear Manuscript”). Just doing what I could to keep from having to get a 9-to-5er.
I’ve also written nonfiction for more than thirty years, mostly books about games and gambling. I’m primarily known as a blackjack expert as I’ve written more books on that subject than any other. I published and edited a trade journal for professional gamblers (Blackjack Forum) for more than twenty years. I’ve also written a couple books on poker tournament strategies. If you google my name, you’ll mostly find blackjack and poker references, not all of them flattering. My gambling books have often been aimed at taking down sacred cows.
In 2006, I wrote a book on how to beat the Internet casinos–a book that promptly became obsolete as a result of the US govt’s relentless crackdowns on online gambling sites. I’ve written several books on how to solve Sudoku puzzles–Sudoku is what I do when I get stuck in a writing project.
In 2009, I wrote a book called Topless Vegas that reviews all of the strip clubs and topless shows in Las Vegas, which I now update online at toplessvegasonline.com. Gotta keep current with this all-important cultural scene. (This is culture in Vegas, and yes, I get paid for this.) In 1998, I wrote a book titled The Seven Spiritual Laws of Making Big Bucks: A Practical Guide to the Self-Righteous Amassing of an Obscene Fortune, under the name “Deepockets Chokya,” a parody of the popular new-age guru.
Indisputably, I’m a whore. I’ll write just about anything if you pay me. (But that “just about” is significant. I’d split an infinitive before I’d ever write speeches for politicians. I have some standards.) You can find information on all of my books by clicking Snyder’s Books on the menu bar above.
In addition to being a write-aholic, I’m also a readaholic, usually reading half a dozen books at the same time, about a 3-2 ratio of fiction to nonfiction. When I started this blog, I intended to publish at least one book review every week, and I did that for a while. Then I started writing novellas and couldn’t stop.
I generally buy the books I review, but if you have a published novel you think I might like to review, you may send it to:

No guarantees. I only review books I like. Please include your email address for a response.
As far as my personal life goes, I’ve been a professional gambler. Now, I’m a professional gambler with dogs. I live in the mountains west of Las Vegas. In 2002, I was inducted into the Blackjack Hall of Fame. You can email me at: snyder/at/write-aholic/dot/com.
